Using Facebook For Your Business

With the stellar increase in popularity of social media sites, the question for your business is not whether you should create a Facebook page for your business, but rather how quickly you can get the page created and add fans to harness its true potential.

Become a fan. You should become your first fan so that you can experiment with different posts and get a feel for the functionality of your new page. Before becoming a fan, however, you should log out of Facebook and log back in with your personal login. Then, search for your business name in the upper right corner. You should find your newly published page, click on it, and click on Become a Fan on the left pane.

Acquire fans. You can get fans in several ways. Ask everyone in your company to visit the new business page and click the “Like” button. Suggest the page to friends outside the company. Email people you know and ask them to become fans as well. Send an email to your customers and tell them why they should become fans; entice them with the possibility of special offers or early knowledge of new products or events. Build a Facebook ad to attract potential fans.. Advertisements for business pages on Facebook can be closely targeted.

Upload a logo or brand specific image for your business and display the image as the profile picture. If you a logo associated with your business, customers will be able to recognize your business just by viewing the profile image.

Browse the hundreds of optional applications available to Facebook users that can help promote a small business to customize your Facebook page to better meet your needs. Keep frequent updates and notes on your Facebook, and send bulletins and mass messages to friends to keep them up on the latest news from your business.

Offer discounts or savings to individuals who are friends with you on Facebook, perhaps using a discount code or promotional key for customers to redeem who befriend you on Facebook.

Members of any social community feel more comfortable sharing their thoughts if you ask for them and then act upon them. Develop relationships not only between your brand and the fans, but also among the community of fans themselves. This facilitates buy-in and creates brand evangelists. Solicit feedback on how you can improve the business page on Facebook. Monitor the Facebook page regularly. Prompt response to your fans’ questions and comments is necessary to maintain a healthy, active business page.

Avoid extremes of activity or inactivity. A business page on Facebook with irregular or little activity is useless. Fans only engage if they know someone is listening. The opposite is even more detrimental. If your posts are showing up on a fan’s Facebook news feed every few minutes all day long, they’ll see this as spam and likely leave your business page.

Facebook can be a great tool for any business to find new customers online, no matter how big your business is.
