QR Codes

Quick Response codes (QR codes or QRCs) are two-dimensional bar codes that store a set number of characters. They are usually square, black-and-white, bar codes. You can change the color and add graphics to customize it. The original purpose behind QR codes was to speed up production in car factories. The business world adopted the use of QR codes to assist with marketing and branding their products. QR codes are increasingly showing up on print advertisements and websites.

QR codes evolved in Japan in 1994, where they are widely used. Other countries have been slow to adopt this technology. A big limitation to QR codes is lack of education. Many consumers do not know what they are or how to use them. This limitation is lifted when consumers gain knowledge and familiarity with this code.

Quick response, or QR, codes bridge the gap between online and offline media by using a bar code to store URLs, email addresses and contact cards. A QR code holds a link to a website or email address. When a person scans the QR code with her smartphone camera, she is taken to the URL stored in the code. QR codes work well for events with the ability to use QR codes in conjunction with name badges, posters and print advertisements. QR code creation begins with a QR generator. Many websites are available that create QR codes for free.

Quick Response codes printed on advertisements get your URL, contact card and email addresses to your customers in an interactive way. The standard QR code appears as a black and white box. Depending on the options of the QR code generator you chose, adding customization such as color, text and graphics to your QR codes sets you apart from your competition. Customizing your QR code also increases the chance your customers will scan your QR code to get your information.

Add a graphic to your QR code. QR codes allow you to insert a small graphic into the center. This doesn’t interfere with the QR code functionality and provides visual interest to your customers. This works best when using a simple logo or vector graphic.

Round off the corners of your QR code to soften the appearance. The default QR code comes with sharp pointed corners.

Change the color of your QR code. The default QR code is black and white with black text, if applicable. Changing the color of your QR code sets your QR apart from the competition. You also can change the color of the text to make it stand out from the background.

The function of a QR code is to provide information quickly by delivering data straight to a mobile device which can lead to increased sales and brand awareness.
